HOLEE HAI (It's the Festival of Colors)
Holi is a festival to celebrate good harvests and fertility of the land. Each year, without fail, the old and the young alike, gather into groups and indulge in a riot of colours. One could get away with almost anything on this day; squirting coloured water on passers-by and dunking friends in the mud pool saying "buraa na maano, Holee he" (don't feel offended, it's Holi).
In this lesson you will hear a song in the spirit of Holi from the Hindi film "Silsila". For this song we have provided Hindi dialogues in Devanagari and Roman script. You have two assignments based on this lesson:
- Use the underlined words in sentences of your choice and email them to your Hindi knowing friend.
- Using Window's Sound Recorder, record a 60 second summary of this song in Hindi in your own voice and send it as an attachment to your friend by e-mail. You may take up to 7 days to complete these assignments. (Note: If you do not have any Hindi knowing friends feel free to email to myhinditeacher@intelindia.com . Your teacher will evaluate your work and send you the corrected versions).
